Summer Driving: Fun Family Road Trips
May 23, 2008 |Remember when as kids we passed the time on road trips by hunting for the alphabet on billboards? That was fun for about five minutes. Then sibling harmony, such as it was, dissolved into a bitter shouting match over who was touching whom:
Me: Mom, he touched me!
My brother: Did not!
Me: Did too!
Sound familiar? And those were supposed to be the good ‘ole days! Thanks to technology in the car, family road trips have come a long way, baby. Moms everywhere would like to give the person who thought of rear-seat video a Nobel Peace Prize. Or, at the very least a “Thank-God-I-FINALLY-Have-Some-Peace” Prize. Whichever. While kids are entertained in the back seat, parents can keep their eyes on the road, always the best place for them. The latest offerings in rear-seat video are even cooler, with features like dual screens for different programming, touch screens so kids can pick and choose what they watch easily, wireless headsets and connections for gaming.
That’s not to say that all the fun is for the kids, though. iPod integration kits let you take your music collection with you in the car and ensure quality sound through your car’s stereo system. So while your kids are enjoying Dora the Explorer in the backseat, you can re-live your own youth with New Kids on the Block in the front. If nothing else, their new single, “Summertime”, should get you in the mood for a summer road trip!
With so many states implementing wireless hands free laws, you should also look into Bluetooth integration kits. Bluetooth ear pieces may be all the rage, but there are other easier (and let’s face it—much more attractive) ways to make and receive phone calls in the car. And if gas prices have got you down, the newest GPS systems make it easy to find the lowest priced gas in your area, no matter where you are!
