Greener Gadgets: LG Announces New Nationwide Recycling Initiative

Jen B By Jennifer Bemisderfer

Consumers have yet another option for recycling their consumer electronics (CE) products today, thanks to a new program from LG Electronics. Similar to the Sony Take Back Recycling Program, LG has partnered with Waste Management Inc. to provide consumers with a free and convenient way of recycling their used, unwanted, obsolete or damaged LG consumer electronic s products by dropping them off at a designated Waste Management eCycling center. There are currently more than 160 drop off locations across the United States.

Kudos to LG for demonstrating leadership on the issue of electronics recycling. CEA research demonstrates that consumers are placing more importance on electronics recycling than ever before. In fact, 87 percent of U.S. adults think that recycling unused electronics is important. That sentiment is quickly translating into action, as the number of CE products being recycled increases—up 27 percent in 2007 over 2005. This is great news for the environment. CE recycling keeps valuable materials out of landfills so that they can be used in new products, thereby conserving our natural resources.
