Give a Greener Gift
December 9, 2008 |There’s no reason to let the tree be the only thing green this holiday season! Consumer electronics manufacturers have stepped up production of all kinds of eco-friendly products. Joe Hutsko of the New York Times’ Green Inc. blog found the best of what’s out there in Friday’s post Holiday Gadget Gifts in Shades of Green.
Just this week, CEA has joined up with the Alliance to Save Energy to promote ENERGY STAR-qualified electronics products for the upcoming holiday buying season. With the economic crisis squeezing family budgets across the country, ENERGY STAR products are a great way to reduce energy bills and do the Earth a favor. According to the EPA, average homeowners can save up to 30 percent – or about 700 dollars – on annual energy bills by using products with the Energy Star label. Energy savings are equally impressive for these top holiday gift items:
· Televisions: ENERGY STAR qualified TVs use 30 percent less energy than standard units.
· Computer Monitors: ENERGY STAR qualified computer monitors use up to 60 percent less electricity than standard models.
· Audio Products: ENERGY STAR qualified audio products use 6 percent less energy than standard models.
In fact, new specifications for digital televisions went into effect November 1st. You can find ENERGY STAR televisions in local retailers now. Before you shop, check out the list of qualified manufacturers on the EPA website.
