Not only is it the most wonderful time of year to receive gifts, but also to give them, especially consumer electronics gifts!

In my family, Christmas is the occasion when my brother and I seize the opportunity to amaze, entertain, and make our Dad’s jaw drop with something from the wonderful world of consumer technology. I mean, for a man who went without e-mail for 50 years, showing him how to setup a Yahoo! account then sending e-mail was mind-blowing.

So methodically we have been graduating him year-to-year with a new CE gift that was a little bit more complex than the year before. For example, year-one of this operation was an automatic tie rack, like the ones found in a SkyMall catalog. Then there was the digital photo frame (to view pictures of his handsome sons, of course!), GPS, and then finally a BlackBerry last year.

We have not yet decided what we are getting for him this year, but it will definitely be CE related. Whatever it is, it will be a joy to watch him shred through the wrapping paper to get to his new ‘toy’…and then spend the next several hours teaching him how to use it.
