Grey Matters
March 5, 2009 |It’s clear from my photo that I’m part of the “older American” demographic. Stereotypes and clichés aside, when it comes to gadgets, ease-of-use IS a big concern. Though not averse to trying new technology, it better not tax my memory with sub-menus and miniscule buttons. At any rate it’s pleasant to report that I borrowed Pure Digital’s Flip Ultra camcorder from CEA’s technology lending library and found its use remarkably pain-free. Witness Sneakers wishing his owner Emma a Happy 19th Birthday.
The Woodstock generation does not stand alone in a desire for simplicity of use (or a profile on Facebook). CEA/TNS Compete’s consumer research study: Greying Gadgets – How Older Americans Shop For and Use Consumer Electronics (Feb. 2009) found – go figure – that all generations dislike feature creep. For more demographic and generational insights read the study; it will be posted to CEA’s members-only site soon, and available for purchase in the CEA store shortly.
