Sharing Your Shots on the Web
May 12, 2009 |Would you believe more men than women post their photos on Facebook? The reverse is true for MySpace, and no matter what you use, social networking sites are the most popular websites for posting photos according to a 2009 CEA study called Digital Imaging – A Focus on Sharing.
Even President Obama is taking part in online photo sharing as the White House posted a behind-the-scenes photo album of his first 100 days in office on Flickr. Another dedicated photo sharing site, Photobucket, announced it has launched new features that allow users to easily share their photos across various social networking sites.
Many publications like USA Today and Parents magazine encourage readers to share their photos online through contests.
The Associated Press recently offered some tips on picking the right photo sharing site. Make sure you pick a site that will meet your needs as some may be more geared toward people who want to order prints and other collectibles, while others are better for online sharing with friends and family.
The right features are an important aspect of photo sharing sites as well. Tagging friends in online photos is very popular, and interest is rising for other features like geotagging. Cornell scientists analyzed thousands of geotagged photos, and believe it provides a practical way to automatically organize large collections of images, perhaps even creating an online travel guidebook showing the best vacation spots.
Do you post photos on web? Tell me your favorite photo sharing sites and what you like about them.

Nice article. While photo sharing is fine, I think people should be aware that once a photo is up, it’s potentially up forever. There’s no gaurenttee that you’ll be able to completly remove your picture from the web if someone copies it to there own site. And also maybe think twice before uploading potentially harmful pictures as it’s a know fact that before busineses hire employees they are likely going to have a look at your online profiles, and pictures.
