Foreigners Love the Employee Free Choice Act

Today, founders of a variety of small consumer electronics companies will be walking the marble halls of Congress to educate members on the importance of innovation to our economy and their businesses.

CEA is the nation’s largest technology trade association representing 2,200 U.S. tech companies, with 80 percent of those companies being small businesses. President Obama recently stated, “Small businesses are the heart of the American economy” and their contributions to the American economy will be an important factor in pulling us out of the current financial crisis.

One item that that these leaders will be discussing is the so-called pending “Card Check” legislation.  As the CEA small business companies explained in a letter to President Obama today, such legislation would have devastating consequences for small business.

In these tough economic times, our government should be working to advance policies that help American businesses flourish, creating more jobs and improving our national economy.

Standing up and speaking in favor of innovation is an important part of the American political process. Traveling to Washington to promote innovation does takes time out of running their businesses, but puts an important face on just exactly who these policies will impact. Policymakers should give small business owners in the U.S. more of an ear than, say, the Australian, Norwegian and British companies that one major union is bringing before Congress in support of the innovation-killing card check legislation.
