Living An Eco-Friendly Lifestyle Through Technology
December 18, 2009 |Part 1 of the Green Life Smart Life Series
Last week, I traveled to Narragansett, Rhode Island to the Green Life Smart Life (GLSL) home for its announcement of becoming officially rated by the U.S .Green Building Council (USGBC) as a GOLD certified LEED® for Homes Project.
CEA is proud to sponsor this project that gives home builders and homeowners a real-life example that an energy efficient lifestyle does not mean sacrificing any of the design and entertainment features of a high-tech home.
GLSL used CEA’s TechHome Rating System when designing its technology infrastructure to connect the home control and entertainment features. The home is rated TechHome Platinum, the highest level within the rating system. CEA’s TechHome Division created the TechHome Rating System (THRS) to meet the needs of today’s 21st century technology. With a TechHome rating, it is clear what types of products, applications and services you can attach to a homes’ technology infrastructure.
Several CEA member companies have innovated technologies integrated throughout the GLSL home including home automation for complete control of lighting, security, HVAV and energy management. The home embraces today’s growing demand for structured wiring, multi-room music and video, content on-demand, digital pictures, connected networks and remote access.
During the next week, we will be running a series of posts about the Green Life Smart Life project to highlight what you can do within your current or future home to live a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle through technology.
To kick off this series, I sat down with Kim Lancaster, to find out why she built a home that allows her to live both a smart and a green life.
