Last week, CEA hosted its inaugural CES on the Hill. The event, which attracted more than 400 attendees including Members of Congress, their staff and media, featured the latest consumer technology innovations.

Seventy percent of us are guilty of it*. Mobile phones, while a lifeline to friends, family and our professional worlds, are commonly the cause of distracted driving. An independent study by the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute concluded that, of all the ways to use your mobile phone on the road, texting has the highest degree of risk. Last week, I attended the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show in Las Vegas. It was a great opportunity to step outside DC and hear first-hand how broadcasters feel about the work going on inside the Beltway. And to say they are not pleased is the understatement of the year.

What do consumers really want when they ask for “green”? CEA recently conducted a survey to measure consumer perceptions. Not surprisingly, the most common terminology associated with being green is recyclable (97 percent of consumers said they were familiar with the term) followed by energy efficiency, organic, and global warming (93 percent respectively). Consumers showed less fluency with new terms and concepts like smart grid (only 28 percent said they were familiar with the term) and carbon offset (36 percent).

More than 400 folks from Congress and the policy community attended last night’s inaugural CES on the Hill in the historic Eastern Market in DC. Exhibitors included Audiovox, AT&T, Best Buy, Kodak, LG, Microsoft, Motorola, Panasonic and Qualcomm, Samsung, Schlage and Sony.
