Digital Imaging Trends at CES
From Instant Sharing and Geo-tagging to 3D
Earlier this month, I got to see all the latest and greatest new gadgets at CES. It was my fourth show and my favorite yet. Attendance was up, the mood was high and as always – fun, new tech gadgets were everywhere to be seen. Every year I look forward to checking out what’s new in digital imaging, and this year didn’t disappoint.
The Kodak Pulse is one of my favorite digital frames. The 10- or seven-inch frame comes with a custom email address to easily receive new pictures, allows wireless uploads, connects with Facebook to automatically upload your favorite albums from your friends’ photos and even has a sensor to turn on when you’re nearby or save energy when you’re not. I got my Mom a Pulse for Christmas, and it’s amazing to be able to share pictures with a simple email from anywhere.
On the digital camera front, I really like the ability to geotag photos. Casio makes it easier than ever with the EX-H20G, billing it as “a camera that remembers where you’ve been…even when you don’t.” It has a built-in hybrid GPS system to geotag photos indoors and out. It also has a long-life rechargeable battery that takes up to 600 shots so you don’t need to worry about running out of juice right before a picture-perfect moment.
If you’re like me, and want to have a camera with you everywhere, then you have to be happy about all the new rugged models available. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 is waterproof, freeze-proof, shockproof and dust-proof. Take it anywhere so you never miss a shot.
3D isn’t just for televisions. Sony’s new handheld camcorder, the Bloggie 3D, shoots 3D and 2D videos and photos. You can view it on any 3D-capable TV or even in 3D without glasses right on the 2.4-inch LCD screen.
JVC was also showing off some 3D camcorders. The GZ-HM960 records and displays video in 3D. It also has glasses-free 3D display on its 3.5-inch LCD touch screen, and if you shoot a lot of video you’ll love the 16GB onboard flash memory and expandable memory card slot.
I could go on forever about all the cool digital imaging stuff I loved, but I’ll leave you with this. It’s been a few weeks since the show, so by now you’ve probably had time to digest a lot of the news coverage. What were your favorites from CES, and what camera/camcorder features are you hoping to see in the next year?
