2012 CES: Attendee favorites

By: Rick Kowalski 27 January 2012

Since there were more than 3,100 exhibitors at the 2012 International CES this year, it has taken me some time to fully comprehend the highlights of the show. Rob Pegoraro did a fine job summing up the big trends last week. Luckily there were also several wrap-up stories from journalists (to list just a few) that pointed out some of the cool gadgets I missed.

While I’m at CES, I try to capture the highlights of the show through the eyes of attendees. This year I hit the floor with Lindsay Bianco to ask attendees what the coolest gadgets were and why they thought it was important to come to CES this year. Although it’s interesting to hear what attendees think is cool, it’s even more interesting to learn why they like a device and how they would use it. The video below captures some of the enthusiasm at the show. My other favorite interviews are Why is CES Important to You? and Coolest Gadgets Day 1 and 2.  For more CES interviews and fun product demos, visit CESonthetube.

You know what’s not innovative? Using generic backgrounds and texts for your videos…*FACEPALM*.

I’ll admit, I’m an amateur when it comes to video. Our main goal with these videos is to get attendees’ gut reactions as they’re traversing the show floor. This sometimes brings out the serendipity of being at the show, as respondents will say “I just saw this one device over there…” I think it’s a fun and different approach to covering the show.

Point taken–but you’re representing major consumer electronics companies. There isn’t a single person in the entire CEA office that knows how to do video? You posted the video 3 weeks after CES concluded..

Suffice to say, I’m not surprised. Looks like the company is just a massive PR firm instead of a pool of technology enthusiasts.
