Rob’s January Podcast: The Successful SOPA Fight and Post-CES Recap

By: Rob Pegoraro 1 February 2012

Podcast MicJanuary’s podcast opens up with a short recap of January’s biggest tech story–the surprisingly successful fight to stop SOPA. When the Stop Online Piracy Act first surfaced, that’s nothing I would have expected. Seeing the clock run out on this bill or its Senate companion, the Protect IP Act, would have counted as a major victory; to see most of its sponsors run away from the thing would have been unimaginable.

Then comes a long chat with veteran tech analyst Gary Arlen, who has now been to CES some 30 times. We compare notes about the just-concluded show, discuss such ongoing tech issues as spectrum availability, speculate about how CES might change without Microsoft as a headline act and stroll down Memory Lane for a bit. Yes, the Apple Newton does come up in our Q&A.

The podcast wraps up with a few words about this month’s post-CES Web chat and our plans for more along those lines.
