All I Ever WanteD To Know About DTV, But Was Afraid To Ask

One of the many benefits of working for CEA is that you get to attend the International CES each January and are among the first in the nation and often, the world, to see the latest technology has to offer.

Scoreboard: DTV Transition 2, Doom & Gloom 0

Chores done, I’m sitting in the den late on a weekend afternoon multi-tasking– watching The Sox (NESN cable), on a high-def 42-inch plasma and golf (CBS off-air) on an old 20-inch analog with a converter box. Reception is great on both.

Getting Connected

I made a trip home for the first time in about a year only to find my parents had a year’s worth of new electronics waiting for me to hook up for them. A new modem, router, Ooma and Sling Box were awaiting me.

How do you plan to show your appreciation for Mom this Mother’s Day? Hugs, flowers, and chocolate are the traditional gifts, but is there something else she may want?

A few years ago, CEA found that nearly a third of moms would like electronics for Mother’s Day. To take a closer look at Mother’s Day wish lists, we asked folks on the National Mall in Washington, DC to tell us what they are getting Mom, and asked mothers what they want.
Wish lists included everything from iPods to laptops, …

On a cool February afternoon, I hit the street with CEA colleagues Lindsay Goodman and Mark Gillins to ask people in the neighborhood about the transition to digital television. This was a particularly confusing time for consumers, as Congress had just passed a bill changing the transition date from February 17, 2009 to June 12, 2009. We were interested in seeing if people were prepared for the transition, and if they were aware of the new date.

We were happy to discover that people were generally aware and …

President Obama yesterday signed into law S. 232, the DTV Delay Act, which extends the digital television transition date from February 17 to June 12. The President said that the four month extension of the DTV transition will ensure that all Americans benefit from DTV, including those consumers who will benefit from having some additional time to prepare.
CEA has been a leader in educating consumers about the DTV Transition, and we’ve already updated our websites and related information to reflect the June 12 transition date. We think the …

As Yogi Berra’s cousin Yagi might have said, after February 17th we’ll only have digital DTV signals.
In addition to better picture quality many free over-the-air DTV signals also carry additional programming not found on cable or satellite. For this reason millions of Americans are installing or improving their TV antenna systems, and AntennaWeb.org is helping them out. AntennaWeb.org is a joint project of CEA and the National Association of Broadcasters. It lets a consumer input a street address and get a listing of free over-the-air DTV signals …

Awarding the Rabbit Ears Pioneers Prize

I had the distinct pleasure of taking a few hours out of a very busy media tour schedule last week in Chicago to make a presentation to one of the “Rabbit Ears Pioneers” award winners.
